About the Council

The CCP was established in June 1990. The Council brought together six independent professional associations and unions across Canada representing 10,000 professional engineers, scientific, supervisory and administrative employees.

The CCP has since expanded beyond the electrical utilities into communications and hopes to expand to other groups of professionals. This includes others in the public sector and the oil and gas industries where the same concerns are shared with the present CCP members.

Today, there are eleven member organizations, with a Board of Directors composed of the Presidents of each union and association. The Board meets on a semi-annual basis in different cities across Canada. They discuss common interests, the latest events affecting their organizations and companies, network and exchange information such as negotiating issues, agreements, arbitration and judicial decisions, research results and member publications.

The CCP's Goals and Objectives

  • Establish and maintain a permanent communications network for matters of labour relations, through exchange of information with respect to legal actions, lobbying, collective bargaining, and all issues of common interests.
  • Development of common positions in various matters, such as legislative issues, general economic conditions, social and civic goals, and professional development.
  • Assist groups of professional employees and associated staff who wish to form an association or union for purposes of representing the interests of their members in labour relations.

Join Now!  Help Shape the Future for Professional Employees and Supervisors

The members of the CCP share issues of common interest and participate in developing common positions on various matters. The CCP provides a forum where the leaders of the member groups can meet to discuss problems like downsizing, contracting out, reorganization, the impact of technology changes, loss of job security and privatization with a view to finding workable solutions. The employees you represent may be facing similar challenges.

Being part of the CCP allows you to draw on a large pool of expertise, be it for information on collective bargaining, work-place issues, hours of work, grievances, professional development, lobbying, or other issues of common interest.

It makes good sense for employee group representatives like yourself to maintain personal contact with the leaders of similar organiztions. By working together we can all become more effective when lobbying our companies, government and the media. We hope you will join us.
